This was a more pleasant experience than the pasta – the salty bready flavor did work with the flavors of my salad. For this I cooked the exact same way as I did before in the microwave. The second place I tried it was with a Caesar salad. All in all I was not a big fan of using it in my pasta. In addition the pesto sauce I was using did not end up going very well at all with the salty bready flavor of the chik’n.
Because it had such a strong and off-putting salty & bread-like taste to it, I found myself avoiding it when eating my pasta. Not a very pleasant taste but I decided to try it with my pasta anyway to give it a fair trial. So essentially, I felt like I was eating chewy salty bread. There was no real effort to get that umami taste that we are looking for. However, in this case it tasted like they just dumped salt on bread and called it a day. Now a lot of companies will use salt to try and mimic the umami flavor that you get with chicken and other types of meats. In addition to that, there was also an overwhelming saltiness. However, this was an overwhelming bread taste. Now this is not totally uncommon since a lot of different fake meats will use gluten as protein which can give them a slight bready taste. Similar to the smell, it had a very very bready taste to it. It was definitely not the most pleasant smell.īefore I placed it into my pasta I did give it a try just on its own to see what its natural flavor was. It essentially smelled like hot wet bread. The second thing I noticed was the smell. It was a lot chewier than a lot of other fake meat that I have tried. The first thing I noticed straight out of the microwave was the texture. I just put it in a plastic Tupperware and placed it into the microwave for about a minute and a half. To prepare, I cooked it exactly how it said to.
#Mindful chik n full
To get a full idea of the versatility of this chik’n, I decided to try this in two different foods: pesto pasta and Ceasar salad.įirst, I had it with pesto pasta. In addition to the visual texture, the color is a lot more chicken-like than a lot of others I have seen. As you can see the actual chik’n is layered much like real chicken.
When you take a look at it straight out of the packaging it actually does look pretty good! It comes in chucks of chicken perfect for stir fries, pastas, salads, and more. As far as protein content per piece that is pretty high so I will give them that. Now for $7.50 you will get about 2.5 servings worth of chik’n with each of those having 19 grams of protein. Usually in the meat area all you find are the fake sausages (check out my review on them here). I found these bad boys in the meat section of none other than Stop and Shop for about $7.50! It was the first time I had seen chik’n in this area. Hello Everyone! Welcome back to my Fake Meat Reviews series, today we are diving in with the Sweet Earth Mindful Chik’n strips with a whopping 19 grams of protein!
